Yoga

The amount of benefit you get from my guidance is dependent on state of mind.  If your brain is busy working out what I mean before you try anything out, you will struggle.  I speak the language of the body, and if that is unfamiliar to you the only way to truly know what I mean is by trying the thing out whilst in your body.  This is a battle for anyone with a fixed idea of what things mean, because they will need to unlearn before any learning can happen.  And the learning arrives directly from a bodily experience, not from the sense you can make of the idea.   So my advice would be, suspend what you ‘know’ about your body. I have discovered that these impressions limit the potential for change. And the satisfaction that comes from experiencing a change that may have seemed impossible before it’s its own reward.

These are for something that you would like some precise guidance for. There is no ‘performance’ required on your part, but once we have a potential answer to your inquiry, it’s effectiveness will depend on your genuine wloeheartedness of attention to and embodiment of the ‘clues and cues’ I offer.  My intent is to give you something you recognise and can reproduce for yourself so it becomes yours.

I inevitably turn up with a ‘theme’ - usually a ‘first principle of practice’ that sets the tone for ‘how’ we do things.
Sometimes this is centred on looking after some particular part of the body or on an exploration of particular movements that a body needs for it to give you that somatic ‘thank you’.
There is plenty of space for questions and interaction in my classes and workshops, because the intent is the same - to get you to a place where you can have  a direct and pleasurable experience of what works, again so you can recognise it and can adopt it in your own life. That being said, I will be sharing a core ‘principle’ of practice - something that if understood in application should make sense of (and help with) any specific issue that you might have going on.  So interactive participation is meant to  stay ’on topic’, so that  I am not diverted away from the theme. This way everyone in the class gets the benefit of consistency and flow.
